Nachusa Grasslands Plant List.

A large part of the work at Nachusa Grasslands revolves around picking native prairie plant seeds and then planting the seeds in a new planting or overseeding an existing area to enrich the quantity and diversity of the plants in the area. As an aid to picking seeds, a list is maintained showing the first and last dates that plants were picked. The list was created by combining the pick date information of the summer crew and the pick date information of stewards who regularly pick seeds. Since the list contains several years of data, and the seeds mature "earlier" or "later" depending on conditions, the seeds of some species may not be available at the extremes shown in the data.

The pick date files contain a bar for each species showing the first and last pick dates for that species.

Dwight Hechert maintains an herbarium containing over 600 species of the plants found at Nachusa.
