Workday Leader Signup

For Nachusa Grasslands Stewards or Stewardship Team Leaders

Workday Leader Signup
To sign up for a workday, login into your volunteer account. If you haven't created an account, just follow the instructions on the Login page. Once you are logged in, navigate to the "Schedule" tab and select any available leader openings.

After you sign up, email the Administrative Assistant with your tentative activities (for example, seed collection/processing/
planting, weed management, and/or brush clearing). You can change or update your plans closer to the date of your workday.
Workday Meeting Location
Workday leaders will meet the volunteer participants at the Nachusa Grasslands Headquarters. From the parking lot, participants will look for a sign to direct them to the new Seed Room. TNC requires that masks must be worn inside the Seed Room and any other building at the Headquarters.

COVID-19
Safety protocols have been established and must be followed by all workday leaders and volunteers until further notice. See "COVID-19 Workday Safety Protocols" for details.

Workday Times
Workdays run from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm, spring through autumn. In winter, workday leaders may adjust the start time to 10:00 am in order to allow the temperature to warm up. A workday that begins at 10:00 am would end at 1:00 pm. Email the Administrative Assistant if you want to change your workday times.

If desired, download these workday tips and checklist.
How many volunteers can sign up for a workday?
Workdays can have up to six volunteers. Leaders specify how many they need.

To control the number of participants and help leaders plan equipment and tasks, volunteers will be required to sign up in advance.

Calendars and Reminders
Workdays will be added to the volunteer calendar after leaders sign up for specific days. Workdays will be also be added to the website calendar as they are scheduled.

You will receive a reminder from the Friends of Nachusa Grasslands as the sender, one week before your scheduled workday. asking you to reply with your workday plans by noon on Tuesday. You can also send photos of your worksite for posting on social media.

Cancellation
If your availability changes, please try to find a substitute. If you are unsuccessful, Email the Administrative Assistant. We'll do our best to help out.
Other Leading Opportunities
You can also volunteer to lead a workday at the new 1420 Naylor property (or some other unit) if there are not enough tasks in your own unit to keep a workday group busy. You would be assigned a list of tasks and a specific area in which to work.

Woodies, Weeds, and Seeds Stewardship Teams led by Mike Carr and Jay Stacy are forming for those who wish to volunteer more at Nachusa. For details and a sign-up form, see the Stewardship Teams webpage.
