When and where do guided hikes take place?
Guided Hikes take place throughout the summer at different times. Please arrive at the Visitor Center 15 minutes before the start of the hike, as the group will leave promptly. The outhouses are open. Participants will meet at the Nachusa Grasslands Visitor Center, 2075 Lowden Road, Franklin Grove, Illinois. After an introduction, participants will drive their own vehicle from the Visitor Center to the trailhead.
What can I expect on a guided Hike?
Each hike will be different! In general, you will learn about our flora and fauna, management practices, and ways you can become involved in our efforts. Check the calendar or registration page for more specific hike information. Detailed description of the trails can be found on the hiking trail page.
What should I wear and bring?
Dress for the weather. Always wear long pants, socks, and sturdy shoes. Bring a water bottle. Sunscreen and insect repellent, especially for ticks, gnats, and mosquitoes, are recommended. Face masks are optional, but you are welcome to wear one. Safety protocols similar to Volunteer Workday ones will be followed.
Where can I view what hikes are offered?
Check the calendar or registration page for specific hike information. Hikes will be posted no more than 30 days in advance.
