Visitor Center Trail
![]() Location: Nachusa Grasslands Visitor Center 2075 Lowden Road Franklin Grove, IL 61031 Length: The trail is a .4-mile-mowed path and can be accessed from a couple places. Either join the trail right from the parking lot or follow the hiking trail signs from the Visitor Center pavilion. Plant Identification Signs
During the summer, plant identification signs mark a number of species along the trail. The signs are located close to the plants, but sometimes it's hard to tell which plant is the one. To find the correct species, look for the plastic tape tied to the plant. In the photo above, see the bright pink tape marking the coneflower? |
Common milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) can been seen along the trail.
The trail meanders close to the bison unit, so keep a look-out for the herd. Remember to keep a 100-foot distance from the herd at all times. If the bison are too close to the fence, you may need to turn around.
