Look for Bison
Bring your binoculars! The bison roam across 1,500 acres of rolling land and are often difficult to see from the road. Currently, hiking is not permitted inside the fenced bison unit.

Hike in the Prairie
The preserve is open for hiking from dawn to dusk. Hike along the mowed lanes or venture off–trail amidst the flowering plants and grasses of the prairie. Currently, hiking is not permitted inside the fenced bison unit.

Bird Watch
Over 200 bird species breed, land, or fly over Nachusa Grasslands. Come find grassland birds like the bobolink, dickcissel, Henslow's Sparrow and meadow larks.

Be a Weed Warrior
Would you like to adopt an area for a day, a week or a month? We need an enthusiastic army of "weed busters" to help us combat the invasive plants in the spring and summer seasons. We will provide the equipment and the know–how.

Photograph
This preserve is a real treasure for a nature photographer. With over 700 native plants species, wild bison, grassland birds, wetlands, savannas and prairie, many beautiful images can be captured.

Volunteer
Join us on a Thursday or Saturday morning workday and enjoy lively camaraderie while working alongside an experienced land steward. Beautiful scenery, fresh air and working with your hands can be expected, followed by a good night's sleep at the end of the day!
