All workday leaders will meet their volunteers by the Seed Room in the Morton or at the Headquarters Barn.
 
Leader Supplies in the Seed Room Counter Drawer:

• In the drawer, leaders will find:
  • Liability forms to sign if volunteers have not signed the 2025 digital version. Place any signed forms back in the drawer, and they will be collected.
  • Extra disposable masks — if someone wants one

 
Signups:

• Volunteers must register in advance via SignUpGenius.
• Stewards may request between 3 and 10 volunteers – keep in mind that you will have to arrange for transportation for larger groups.
  
• If you have walk-ins who have brought all the required equipment and you have not exceeded the numbers limit, you may accept them. Otherwise, graciously turn them away and ask them to sign up for a future workday.

Stewards and volunteers should bring:

• Work gloves (required)
• Water and snacks
  

Health status protocols

• If you feel unwell, for any reason, please cancel your attendance.
• Mask requirements: OPTIONAL

Cancellations:

• Workdays may be cancelled when the steward leader is unavailable or special events are taking place at Nachusa Grasslands, during controlled burns, or due to inclement weather conditions: unsafe temperatures, high winds (especially for workdays in wooded areas), rain, deep snow, and/or icy roads.
• Stewards should check the forecast prior to their workdays and make appropriate cancellation decisions, conferring with Nachusa staff when possible.
• Cancellations are usually posted on our Calendar, Twitter feed, and Friends of Nachusa Grasslands Facebook page. Volunteers who have signed up to attend should check their emails when cancellation seems likely.
