Friends of Nachusa Grasslands Science Symposium 2018

Saturday, October 20; 8:30 am

Registration is closed for the Symposium, as we have reached capacity. Please use the RSVP form only for cancellations.
The fourth annual Nachusa Science Symposium hosted by the Friends of Nachusa Grasslands will take place on Saturday, October 20, at the Nachusa Grasslands Headquarters Barn.
Ten researchers doing work at Nachusa this year, including several recipients of Friends of Nachusa Grasslands Scientific Research Project Grants, will be giving oral presentations on their work. Each presentation will be followed by a brief question and answer session. Several other researchers and citizen scientists will be providing poster presentations on their work. These researchers will be available for personal questions and discussion at poster sessions during the morning, the lunch break, and the afternoon.

The doors of the barn will open at 8:30 am for check-in and a few morning refreshments. At 9:20 am, Dr. Elizabeth Bach, our new Nachusa Grasslands Ecosystem Restoration Scientist, will welcome the audience, and presentations will begin at 9:30 am.

A casual lunch will be provided after the morning presentations. The afternoon presentations should be completed by about 2:30 pm. They will be followed by additional time to speak with all of the researchers, a social hour, and an optional bison tour led by Preserve Manager, Bill Kleiman (please dress for outdoor activities if you plan to go on the tour).
Everyone is welcome to attend this free event, but the RSVP below is required to make sure that food and seating needs can be adequately arranged. Attendance will be limited due to the size of the venue, so an early RSVP is advised. If we reach the attendance limit before we receive your reservation, you will be notified.

This year’s symposium is being sponsored by an anonymous donor in recognition of all the volunteers who contribute to the event’s success. We sincerely appreciate his generosity.

Directions to the Nachusa Grasslands Headquarters Barn can be found at http://www.nachusagrasslands.org/directions-and-map.html.

If you are interested in the scientific research that is being done at Nachusa and would like to give a gift to support the program, please consider making a donation today. The Friends of Nachusa Grasslands is currently trying to raise $20,000 to meet a challenge grant for Science at Nachusa. The money will be used to provide research grants in the upcoming year. Go to https://www.nachusagrasslands.org/science-challenge-2018.html for online donations. You can also mail a check with “Science Challenge” written on the memo line to:  Friends of Nachusa Grasslands, 8772 S. Lowden Road, Franklin Grove, IL 61031.
